Diplo by the pool
The Easton, the newest nightlife space created by Fort Lauderdale hospitality impresario David Cardaci (Rhythm & Vine, the Wilder, Roxanne’s, Holly Blue), will have an audacious grand opening party on Saturday with Grammy-winning DJ producer Diplo at the controls of the Flagler Village rooftop poolside lounge. The Wharf blows up
Blowfish is a daylong party at the Wharf Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, filling the open-air riverfront venue with more than 1,000 inflatables (think pool toys) and a haze produced by a battery of CO2 cannons, $10 Blowfish Punch and $25 Bottles of Côtes de Provence Rosé (noon-4 p.m.). Rock & ramen
Sometimes things just line up: Delray Beach blues-rock trio the Flyers, a band deserving of your attention (TheFlyersMusic.com), is scheduled to perform at Mathews Brewing in Lake Worth 8 p.m. Friday, the same night the brewery hosts hard-rocking chef Takeshi Kamioka and his Fort Lauderdale-based food truck, Kaminari Ramen (Instagram.com/KaminariRamen). Go bottomless
Every day may seem like it during a pandemic, but Sunday is the official National Mimosa Day. How to celebrate? Fort Lauderdale‘s waterside Casa Sensei on Las Olas Boulevard (CasaSensei.com) will have bottomless mimosas for $25 per person during brunch; your neighborhood Quarterdeck (QuarterdeckRestaurants.com) goes bottomless for $15 per person; Beach Bar at Newport Pier in Sunny Isles (BeachBarNewportPier.com) has mimosas for $8 per. Love the view at Casa Sensei and Beach Bar, and I’m no mathematician, but Quarterdeck wins.
More good math
The monthly Garage Sale at downtown Fort Lauderdale‘s Rhythm & Vine on Sunday includes more than 30 vendors, food, live music and a bottomless drink package (draft beer, mimosas and Watermelon Vine cocktails) for $25 from 2 to 6 p.m. Doors open for this dog- and kid-friendly gathering at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Free Leslie Cartaya
I’d pay money to hear Grammy- and Latin Grammy-nominated South Florida vocalist Leslie Cartaya (formerly of Palo!), but she’s performing free on Friday at Las Olas Oceanside Park on Fort Lauderdale beach with husband Raymer Olalde‘s band Sonlokos (NoParesEntertainment.com). ‘Tommy’ tribute
Some of South Florida’s top musicians will pay tribute to the Who’s iconic rock opera “Tommy” at Savor Cinema in downtown Fort Lauderdale, with two-hour performances 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The band includes guitarists AJ Lynn (Shovelhead) and Jason Sambataro, bassist Bobby Sherman (Riverdown), drummer Michel Chade (1,000 Pounds of Thrust), Marcelo Pizzotti Langella on keyboards, with vocals by Paul Martini (Vertigo), Ken Hurley (Shovelhead) and Noelle Kujala (Groove Merchant). New Margaritaville
Jimmy Buffett‘s four shows on Old School Square (May 13-14, 17-18) were quick sellouts, but Jimmy is a vibe bigger than himself, and the ripple effects can be found all around Delray Beach. The Tin Roof, across the street, will host a six-day Buffett Bash, including a noon brunch on Sunday that includes a performance by Gary and the Landsharks, led by singer-guitarist Gary Roland, who has performed with Jimmy Buffett and the Beach Boys. Weekend laughs
Drew Lynch has six shows scheduled through Sunday at the Palm Beach Improv in West Palm Beach. Fans of “America’s Got Talent” may remember him as the stand-up who stuttered — and created one of the most emotional moments of Season 10. (Lynch went on to perform at Radio City Music Hall and finish second overall that season, with support from panelist Howie Mandel.) Tickets cost $25 (with two-drink minimum). Influential South Florida singer-songwriter Jim Camacho will do his first performance since COVID closures on Friday, May 21, an 8 p.m. all-ages benefit concert for venerable live-music venue Luna Star Café (775 NE 125th St., North Miami). Camacho plans to play his well-regarded 2009 album “Beachfront Defeat,” with other favorite cuts and special guests. Says Camacho: “I’m looking forward to my first live show in a long time, and I’m happy to have it at Luna Star. It’s a place that has managed to survive this insanity but needs help to stay afloat.” Tickets will be available at the door on a sliding scale starting at $10 (cash only). On Saturday former Miami firefighter Derek Kaplan will open a new, larger flagship location of his beloved Wynwood bakeshop Fireman Derek’s. The new space at 2545 N. Miami Ave. is three blocks south of the old place. In making the announcement, Kaplan tipped his hand on next steps: “I’ve always had big dreams for Fireman Derek’s.
